The European Commission recognizes NUTRIOSE® soluble fibre health benefits

NUTRIOSE® by Roquette is a "natural" highly soluble fiber, obtained from vegetal raw materials such as wheat and corn.
It has a really interesting nutritional profile for the food industry: its high content in soluble and high tolerance fibers allows the formulation of foods and drinks rich in fibers and provides a beneficial effect on gult health and on body wellness.

Its nutritional properties had been already recognized.

Now, also its healthy effects have been fully proved.

Regulation 2016/854 published on May 30, 2016 authorized some new health claims for NUTRIOSE®. 

In particular, the following health claims are allowed:

“Consumption of foods/drinks containing Nutriose® instead of fermentable carbohydrates contributes to the maintenance of tooth mineralization”

In order to bear the claim, fermentable carbohydrates should be replaced in foods or drinks by non-fermentable carbohydrates in such amounts that consumption of such foods or drinks does not lower plaque pH below 5,7 during and up to 30 minutes after consumption.

“Consumption of foods/drinks containing Nutriose®  instead of sugars induces a lower blood glucose rise after their consumption compared to sugar-containing foods/drink”

In order to bear the claim, sugars should be replaced in foods or drinks by non-digestible carbohydrates, which are carbohydrates neither digested nor absorbed in the small intestine, so that foods or drinks contain reduced amounts of sugars by at least the amount referred to in the claim REDUCED [NAME OF NUTRIENT] as listed in the Annex to Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006.

The health benefits of NUTRIOSE® soluble fibre can be indicated on end product packaging provided that it respects the usage conditions and includes the authorized health benefit claim.

For example, in the case of a biscuit with reduced sugars obtained with NUTRIOSE®, the package may indicate: “Reduced blood glucose impact” provided that 30% of the sugars usually used in these biscuits are substituted with Nutriose®.

The health benefits of NUTRIOSE® are backed by the results of 8 clinical studies conducted in four parts of the world.

The quality and scientific rigour of the Roquette Group have been acknowledged by experts on the Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies panel of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
