Xeradin™ is a functional, plant-based ingredient developed by Provital and exclusively distributed in Italy by Faravelli Cosmetic Division, obtained from Salvia sclarea cultivated under controlled water stress conditions. It is a xerophytic plant particularly rich in flavonoids and sugars, selected for its marked adaptogenic properties.
Inspired by the survival abilities of plants in extreme environments, Xeradin™ offers a natural and effective solution to enhance skin hydration. It works by promoting the absorption and retention of water in the skin, while also helping to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and improving barrier function.
The effectiveness of the active ingredient has been demonstrated through in vivo studies conducted on volunteers, which showed a progressive and long-lasting increase in skin hydration up to 24 hours after application. The results highlighted a significant reduction in TEWL and a moisturizing effect attributable solely to the presence of Xeradin™, even in simple formulations.
The conclusions drawn from the studies confirm that Xeradin™ is capable of increasing skin hydration levels without altering the skin barrier, enhancing the use and retention of water at the epidermal level.
Its immediate and prolonged moisturizing action makes the ingredient particularly suitable for the formulation of cosmetics intended for dry, damaged or mature skin, as well as for products designed for extreme environmental conditions, haircare, make-up, and suncare.
Xeradin™ is Ecocert-certified, available in different versions (including solvent- and preservative-free) and can be used at concentrations ranging from 2% to 4%.
For those seeking an active, effective, and sustainable solution for skin hydration, Xeradin™ represents a nature-inspired, science-backed answer.
